ZWILLING acquires French cookware manufacturer Groupe Staub

Solingen, April 18th, 2008:

ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS AG (Solingen), a 100% subsidiary of Wilh. Werhahn KG (Neuss), is delighted to announce that it has acquired the French cookware manufacturer Groupe Staub.

The company, founded by Mr. Francis Staub in 1974, with its headquarter in Turckheim in Alsace, is one of the leading manufacturers of cast-iron-enamel cookware. With this transaction, which is expected to be completed in May after approval by antitrust authorities, ZWILLING intends to further complement its premium product strategy.

Groupe Staub operates three production locations in France and a sales and marketing business in the USA. Their leading ranges are cast-iron-enamel cookware, pottery and stoves; some 50 percent are exported. Here Staub has been focussing on the markets in Europe, Japan and the USA for some time. In 2007, the company registered an increase in turnover of approximately four percent to € 44 million.

With this acquisition, ZWILLING intends to establish itself in this fast-growing sector of cast-iron-enamel cookware and, at the same time, carry on implementing its premium product strategy. In addition, the company is aspiring to achieve a stronger emotional and international look for its ZWILLING stores. Staub, whose cookware is promoted by top chefs such as Paul Bocuse, has already been sold in two ZWILLING concept shops in Shanghai since the end of 2007. Staub will remain an independent brand and generate synergy effects in ZWILLING’s worldwide sales and marketing organisation.

“The market for cast-iron-enamel cookware is growing everywhere in the world and we are delighted to have this extension of our range. Staub is the perfect addition for the ZWILLING Group and will contribute to our further growth,” commented Claus Holst-Gydesen, board member of Wilh. Werhahn KG and CEO of ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS AG.
